The Sadducees were a Jewish political and religious party who did not believe in the resurrection. They come to Jesus to try to trick Jesus with question. They may have also been looking for him to validate their belief. However, Jesus points out their errors in interpreting the Bible. There are many different beliefs today on the resurrection and life after death. Some believe in only a spiritual resurrection. Others believe in a bodily resurrection. People outside the church who we work with or live near may believe in as reincarnation or that there is no life after death. The basis of Christianity is belief in the resurrection of the body. As Paul states in Corinthians 15, we as Christians are to be pitied if there is no resurrection of the body. Because of Christ’s resurrection, we have the hope of our own resurrection and spending eternity with Him if we are counted worthy to take part. We are counted worthy through the God’s mercy. We accept this gift by repenting of our sins. |
